The Mighty Macs

The Mighty Macs

Bottom Line: A middle of the road family drama, but friendly to faith.

The Gist: When Cathy Rush (Carla Gugino) takes a job as the coach of the women’s basketball team at a small Catholic college in the ’70s, no one expected them to succeed, especially the girls themselves. But Rush gives them a reason to believe: believe in excellence, believe in trying something hard, believe in themselves.

The Verdict: Based on a true story, this film could have been so much more if it contrasted70s feminism more with the girls at the Catholic college. As it is, it’s a nice story of success for little girls to watch (especially little athletes), but not much more.
