Bravo has a new TV show that is exactly the sort of thing I love to watch! It’s a reality show where four couples are followed through their first year of marriage.
Not only is that exactly the sort of thing I watch, but there’s even an Indian woman in one of the couples.
Her name is Tina and she’s a pop singer.
You can watch the first episode here: http://www.hulu.com/
It’s great to see the clips from their wedding. She’s marrying a white man and though her father isn’t too comfortable with the match, it doesn’t seem to be because of ethnicity He seems worried about whether Tina’s husband will be able to give her the attention and the kind of love she desires. There does seem to be a mismatch in expectations as she speaks with admiration of the extremely close relationship her parents had and he says to the camera that he doesn’t want their marriage to be anything like her parents’!
Tina might not be the best representation of Hinduism. She doesn’t seem to be very religious, saying “Glitter is my religion.” She’s not the modest, blushing Indian woman of cliche, but her willingness to be so honest and “herself” on TV is something I really respect!
I enjoyed the show a lot and I hope that Bravo will allow more of it to be posted on Hulu, since I do not subscribe to cable.
