I wanted to share with you an article by this name written by Vamadev Shastri.

Is Hinduism a Monotheistic Religion?

While Hinduism can be monotheistic and many people do practice it that way, I think he makes a very important point that monotheism is NOT the measure of an “evolved” religion. There’s this idea, perhaps sometimes subconscious, that a polytheistic religion is somehow more primitive and unevolved. It’s a big mistake to think like that. Monotheism is not the measure of a religion’s validity or truth.

One of the things I love most about Hinduism is its diversity and contradiction. It does not have a linear path and it doesn’t need one. It can be everything at once, it can be so complex that the human mind can’t fit it into a neat box. I love that about it.

We should never try to make it fit into the categories that religions like Christianity set out as the only way. We don’t have to play by their definitions. Hinduism is bigger than that.
