So often we hear Christians say of deconstructionists "oh they are hurt." Well, turns out scientific research says this is likely true, but ought to be treated as a negative attribute of the American Christian Church, not as an excuse to victim-blame but it. Guest Darren Slade's organization, the Global Center for Religious Research, defines religious trauma as resulting "from an event, series of events, relationships, or circumstances within or connected to religious beliefs, practices, or structures that is experienced by an individual as overwhelming or disruptive and has lasting adverse effects on a person’s physical, mental, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being." Now Cynane is writing a book, “Taking Off the Tinfoil Hat: How Lizard People and Space Lasers Dismantled my Christian Worldview,” to process the deconstruction of her fundamentalist evangelicalism and her propagandistic patriotism. Dan McClellan is a public scholar of the Bible and religion. He received his PhD in theology and religion from the University of Exeter. In 2022 he published YHWH's Divine Images: A Cognitive Approach as an open-access book. He worked for a decade as a scripture translation supervisor for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in 2023 transitioned to full-time public scholarship. To help us discuss, we are joined by Promise Enlow whose family is deeply involved with Qanon and considered leaders among several prophets who believe Trump is God's chosen.
