Yes, I am still pregnant. We had a false alarm last Thursday night, and later that same night my godfather died, so I haven’t been feeling very bloggy. I’m not going to lie, it really sucks to be due any minute at the same time that someone extremely dear to me has died. Practically, it’s horrible because I can’t get there. Texas is a 20 hour drive, and obviously flying is out of the question, so I couldn’t go say... Read more

Well, we had an exciting weekend. On Thursday evening I had a talk with our pediatrician, who was VERY CONCERNED that we were choosing to have the baby at a birth center. Normally I would just brush aside concerns about uterine rupture and oxygen deprivation, not because I’m an idiot or anything, but because I’ve done lots of research and am pretty convinced that healthy, low-risk pregnancies are actually low-risk, and that it isn’t irresponsible (or even much riskier than... Read more

37.5 years weeks pregnant today. People keep asking me how I’m feeling, and because it’s impolite to answer, “like a bowling ball is about to fall out of of my ladyparts”, I keep asking them if they’ve read Midnight’s Children. Mostly they haven’t — which is awkward, because then I have to explain why I asked. Like a joke that falls flat, the reference doesn’t survive the explanation well. So I’ve decided to put it here. This is exactly how... Read more

So, my kids are pretty freakin’ fantastic. I know this, but sometimes they are all so awesome at the same time that I get overwhelmed by it, and have to write it down. These are just a few moments of their adorableness in the last 12 hours. Last night, 8 pm The minions (jumping out of a closet): “Surprise!” Me (angry face): “That is a TERRIBLE surprise! I told you to stop hiding and get in bed!!” Liam: “That is... Read more

Well, Christmas break is nearly over – thank. the. Lord. It’s not that I don’t love spending time with my kids – I really, really do. (I might love the luxury of not setting an alarm even more.)  Nevertheless, I’m ready for them to return to school and for life to return to its rhythm, so I can get back to writing and start preparing for the arrival of wee Stormageddon. Yep, I have done almost nothing to get ready... Read more

This morning, I was on the phone with a friend when she asked if I was joining the “pie-face craze”. I was like, wha? “But seriously, what did you just say?” I asked. “Pie-Face,” she repeated. “It’s a game. Apparently it’s the most sought-after toy this Christmas, and all the moms on the Naples Moms Facebook group are going crazy trying to find it for their kids.” I confessed that I had no idea what she was talking about, and... Read more

The Ogre: “Wow, that thing is really…impressive.” Me: “You mean, my stomach?” The Ogre: “Yeah. It’s just enormous.” Me: “This is the fifth time it’s been this enormous. I would have thought you’d be over the surprise.” The Ogre: “But normally the rest of you gets bigger along with it, so it looks odd this time.” Me: “…” The Ogre: “I mean, it looks like you’ve got a medicine ball shoved underneath your skin.” Me: “I kind of do.” The... Read more

Well, I’m kinda hoping y’all didn’t hear me on Jennifer’s show yesterday, because I sounded like a dummy. In my defense, I feel like one too right now, so. Nevertheless, it was nice to feel a little bit normal again, back in the world of bloggers for a bit. I  miss writing and interacting with all my far-flung internet friends. It sucks to be on these long, drawn-out creativity hiatuses because I feel like I’m bereft not only of a... Read more

Hey guys, just a quick post to let you know that I’ll be on Jennifer Fulwiler’s radio show at about 3:30 this afternoon, on SiriusXM’s Catholic Channel. We’re going to be talking about surviving the holidays when you’re in the trenches, which means that between now and then I’ll have to come up with an answer besides “drink heavily, weep copiously.” Wish me luck! Read more

So I went to confession after all, this week. Actually my friend and neighbor read my post and immediately texted me that the following afternoon, I was to drop Lincoln off with her and get my tuchus to confession. I’m not gonna lie, I was hoping a little bit that she would do exactly that, because she’s awesome, and I, in a total dearth of motivation, needed marching orders. So I went, and I confessed, and lo and behold…I felt... Read more
