Yes, Even Google Can Mess Up Big Time! Oak Hills Church Actually Does Worship on Sunday

A friend of mine was visiting from out of town and expressed some interest in attending one of the Sunday morning services at Oak Hills Church, widely known as the home church of Max Lucado. So, I Googled “oak hills church” on my iPad. What appeared, right before the link to the Oak Hills website, was a short summary supplied by Google. Here is what I saw (minus the red circle):

Well, Google got the address right (of the main Oak Hills campus). But notice the next line: “Closed on Sunday.” Well, either that’s a huge shocker (Oak Hills closed on Sunday? I rather doubt it.) or a huge mistake on the part of Google. Oops.

Reminder #1: Don’t believe everything you read online, even from Google.

Reminder #2: In fact, Oak Hills Church gathers for worship several times on Sunday in several convenient locations throughout the San Antonio area. At the main campus (Crownridge), Sunday worship happens at 8:15 9:45, and 11:30. I have worshiped there several times and highly commend this fine church.

  • Funny, how our technology can get the obvious things so wrong, mistaking the church office hours for the important work of the church instead of the Sunday worship. I wonder how many people make the same mistake.

Odd. When I Google oak hills church, I get

    Hours:Mon-Fri 8:30am–4:30pmSat-Sun Closed

which I would assume are their office hours. Perhaps Safari is just being helpful.

Mark, Americans are not THAT silly to believe something that a vast amount of evidence and experience contradict just because it was stated by Google. No, you still have put such things on a newscast and precede them with “Experts say” or “Scientists have found.” THEN you are good to go.

Oh, you can also get the same effect with a droll delivery in a heavy British accent, such as Christopher Hitchens saying about Jesus, “there is not a shred of credible evidence He even existed.” Well, it MUST be true then!
We are not yet to the point where folks would conclude that a church is closed on Sunday just because Google said so. You still have to dress information like that up just a bit before the public will swallow it.
