Todd Stiefel and Words Such As Burn join the lineup

Todd Stiefel has been a cornerstone in the Rock Beyond Belief movement from the very beginning. Over 5 months ago Todd's organization, the Stiefel Freethought Foundation, pledged $10,000 to make our event a reality. Todd has shared the stage with Richard Dawkins, and has spoken across the globe on behalf of the growing secular movement. We are proud to have him speak at our event. Todd Stiefel lives in Raleigh, NC. He is a secular humanist, an atheist and full-time freethought activist. Todd … [Read more...]

Al Stefanelli Joins the lineup

Fort Bragg has signaled that they are all but finalized with their approval of our event. We are eager to stop stringing along so many great guests for a pretty cool opportunity to speak on a military base. The extensive process of being approved necessitated this situation, and now that we seem to have locked in a date, we have lost two of our guests due to scheduling conflicts: Eugenie Scott, and MelodySheep. We sincerely thank each of them for lending us their names and supporting the … [Read more...]

Center For Inquiry shows support for Foxhole Atheists

I was just contacted by Lauren Becker,VP and Director of Outreach of the illustrious Center For Inquiry. Many of you are probably familiar with CFI's history of combating pseudoscience and its proponents. The Center for Inquiry, and its affiliates, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and the Council for Secular Humanism, also carry out their work through education, publishing, advocacy, and social services. Lauren offered to throw quite a bit of support our way, even getting us in direct … [Read more...]

Update Beyond Belief

This week will bring big news that will keep our all-volunteer staff busy for a while. It has been  nearly 5 months of learn-as-you-go grass roots activism that has paid off in spades. When we first approached several entities on Fort Bragg, we were how shall I say this? 'Politely laughed away'. Now, when I walk into an office, I'm asked why I didn't start planning this earlier! To which, I point out, "I had trouble getting by that guy at the front desk over there, the one who was politely … [Read more...]

Army’s Spiritual Misfits must complete Spiritual Fitness training

The screen capture above is dated 13 February 2011. Compare to last month's quote from the people behind this test: [The upper leadership behind the Soldier Fitness Tracker] says the training module only offers ideas for developing one's spiritual side. It is not mandatory and has no effect on one's career. - 13 January 2011. [Source: NPR] Keep in mind, even if this training was optional (which it decidedly does not appear to be), the offensive test itself is not. After you complete the test, … [Read more...]

RBB Performer Spoonboy’s Atheist Anthems Hit YouTube

Are you a nonbeliever? Do you also love music? You probably didn't know it, but Spoonboy is about to blow your mind. Underground singer/songwriter David Combs records his solo work under the Spoonboy moniker. Despite, or perhaps because of, his youth, Spoonboy's socially conscious songs remain energetic and urgent. He might not have meant to do it, but he wrote one of the greatest Atheist anthems of all time, What You Want, from his solo debut album 'I Love You This Is A Robbery'. I highly … [Read more...]

Frostcall Interviews Justin Griffith, Jason Torpy, Grace Quiroz

Frostcall's Tom and Wendy have been extremely kind to Rock Beyond Belief, devoting several episodes to our project, even before we gained the current momentum we are enjoying. The Frostcall podcast is consistently entertaining, and has enjoyed steadily increasing popularity in the crowded field of atheist radio shows. It's perhaps because of the unique perspective the hosts share, recent de-conversion. Tom and Wendy met and fell in love in a pentecostal church.  Tom was raised an … [Read more...]
