Woman and Serpent – Take 2

Some years ago I wrote a book with a former Bob Jones University classmate–David Gustafson. Mary-A Catholic Evangelical Debate is now out of print, but later this year I will be re-publishing it as an e-book and traditional book. This is the chapter in which we discuss the Immaculate Conception. The debate is in depth and some sparks fly, but it is a good read and will help Catholics understand intelligent Evangelical objections to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. It will also help Evangelicals think the doctrine through in more depth, and help both sides understand the history and meaning of the dogma. Read it here and pass it on!

God has truly blessed you with many charisms and I will thank Him for it at Adoration next week. Your intellect and grasp of our Catholic faith’s deepest mysteries provides hope that understanding is attainable.     THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
    When Saint Bernadette asked the Lady who was standing on the rock her name the answer was “I am the Immaculate Conception.” I trust Bernadette and I believe that most of Our Lady’s apparitions are true. Many places linked to Mary presence have a peculiar fragrance. If you happen in Israel, go to visit Zippori, a place where Mary’s family is supposed to come from. In the open countryside there is a well not marked on the maps, but well known to the people who live in the area. The water of this well is bluish.
    As for Mary’s virginity, in my opinion, the true virginity is that of one’s heart. We consider sex as a sin. Indeed it is not like that, for life comes from sex. Hence Mary was a real Virgin sinless even though possibly she begot children.
