Greta prayers

Regular readers know Greta comments here (on many threads!) and may have noticed that she has been absent, lately. Her husband Mark writes in comments here:

My wife continues to decline. She was not supposed to go to the march for life but insisted and anyone who has seen her post knows that stopping her on anything to fight for life has a hard task. She just completed her second round of chemo in her fight with cancer a few weeks back and the doctors did not want her to go. We did everything possible in arranging a private plane and rooms near the center of everything, but she insisted on marching and if you were there, you know it was wet and cold. She returned home with a cold and now is fighting Pneumonia. Her condition and age are not working for her. She was to have gone back for more Chemo in a few weeks after tests confirmed the need last week before she left. Several very good priests friends came to our house today and we had mass here with her and family and friends. She is being attended in shifts by many of the women she has helped in deciding against abortion. We just completed the rosary using the Pope JPII CD she loves with all our grandchildren. She is resisting going to the hospital, but believe she will end up there before the night is out. She has several doctors who have spent the Sunday with her that have also been in the fight for life with her.

Let’s keep Greta in our prayers. Hopefully Mark will keep us updated!

    Keeping Greta in my prayers.

    Psalm 32:6-11 seems appropriate:

    Therefore let all who are faithful offer prayer to you;
    at a time of distress, the rush of mighty waters shall not reach them.
    You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble;
    you surround me with glad cries of deliverance.
    I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
    Do not be like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
    whose temper must be curbed with bit and bridle, else it will not stay near you.
    Many are the torments of the wicked,
    but steadfast love surrounds those who trust in the Lord.
    Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O righteous,
    and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.

    If it’s the Greta I’m thinking of (how many can there be?), I’ve locked horns with her plenty of times in more than one forum. That said, being at odds with someone’s views does not make them my enemy, and we’re all in the same boat sooner or later with human frailties. Still, if anyone can fight two health crises and the abortion wars at the same time and pull it all off, I do believe she is fiesty enough to do it. I wish her the best for a full and speedy recovery.

    I’ve tangled with Greta often, here and in other spaces, and have nothing but respect for her passionate commitment and her personal courage. I’m praying to have her back in the conversation, soon and with strength.

    Thanks to all. Greta was taken to the hospital late. I am back for some things and rushing out. Hard to rush in your 70′s, especially when your other half is not there to help. I got an email this morning about prayers here and from hundreds of those she has touched. She had a call from Father Pavone and several other priest. Her message to all is for prayers to change the hearts and minds of those who now support our country having legal and supported abortion. As anyone knows, Greta believes that our country will never move back toward God as long as we keep this holocuast on babies legal. So she requests your prayers go to those who are on the opposite side of this issue that God might touch their hearts to let their soul and mind be converted toward the baby. Once we have it changed, we can all unite to help those in trouble with as much energy and passion we now have in this debate. I would selfishly like for prayers for her as well for without her in my life, there is little light into my soul. She has been a soulmate for decades and losing her will be something I fear I cannot bear. I have had to share her with untold numbers she has also given her heart and Christ heart through her most of my life. But that heart now is slowly giving out.

    Dear Greta and Mark,

    The LORD bless you and keep you:
    The LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you:
    The LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. (Num. 6:24-26)
