Street Art to Bring You to Your Knees

I love this. Love it! What’s that line? “The world will be saved by beauty…”

If it doesn’t bring us to our knees, it might at least bring us to our senses! Bless this artist!

About Elizabeth Scalia

“The world will be saved by beauty” is not the Biblical message. God saves humans through the propitiatory death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus Christ. I don’t believe it’s wise to mislead sinners into thinking skill in art can bring justification with God.

[For crying out loud, do you actually think THAT'S what I am doing? Trying to MISLEAD people? Please look it up. I was quoting Dostoevsky. -admin]

  • Bob

The quote is from Dostoevsky, and he was referring to Christ. See the second to last paragraph of the following:

See here for further explanation on the quote, including words from Pope Benedict XVI:

[Thank you. You're more patient and more charitable than I, just now. :-) -admin]

I agree, Elizabeth. The Lord gave us our senses. Without beauty, we lose the will to live. God bless this artist, indeed!

  • Tracey

I apologize. I did not recognize that you were quoting Dostoevsky. I still find the video problematic, and Bob’s articles just raised more questions and concerns for me.

  • Gail Finke

Tracey: I am intrigued about what you could possibly find to be problematic about an artist putting posters of his work around the city of Rome. Maybe you don’t like the art? Maybe you don’t like Rome?

  • Manny

Tracey, you’re getting too theological. No one is saying that justification with God comes through beauty. Justification comes through faith, but beauty can lead to faith.

God bless that young man. It’s heartwarming to see someone who doing something so positive from his own time and without payment. Italy seems to be one of the few places in Europe that is holding on to faith.

Beauty is deeper than skin, in God’s vernacular.

Oh how I wish I owned a building that had a large wall that faced public view in my city…I would have a large Catholic religious painting upon it!!! Thank you to artist for doing this…..For now I will be happy with (discreatly and quietly) placing Divine Mercy prayer cards in public places.

That is just lovely. I wish he would come here and paint all over the walls in my home town, or better yet – on our campus walls.

Truth is what you must know.
Good is what you must do.
Beauty is what you must love.
Now go and sin no more.
