“LOOK WHAT YOU DID!” Toys, Toys, Toys!

Isn’t it nice to hear those words and know that what you did was something good, and not something bad?

I can’t wait to stop posting and to shut down for Christmas, but I can’t do that without telling you folks what you have done!

That pic (which I have cribbed from the Facebook timeline of the wonderful Leslie Cascone Rohrbacker with her permission) is just a portion of toy deliveries that made it to Straight and Narrow of Paterson, New Jersey in time for Christmas.

You people are marvelous! One post on the 19th of December and by the 20th, S&N had already received 190 toys! The next day, another 180 packages — many containing more than one toy — were delivered; my contact marveled, “almost the whole UPS truck was toy deliveries for us!”

On that day, Leslie Cascone Rohrbacker also showed up with two carloads of toys — 325 toys, actually! — that she had amassed simply by putting the word out among what she called her “local school mom network” and being willing to collect and deliver them. Astonishing.

On Saturday more toys and even this morning, they received 21 more packages.

My contact there, texted me: “Wow! Woooooow!”

Someone made a three-hour drive in order to deliver these on Saturday!

How cool is all that? How cool is Leslie Rohrbacker and her mom network? How cool are people who will drive three hours to bring toys to kids in need?

How cool are all of you — readers and bloggers — who were so incredibly quick to respond to a need, and to do it with such joy? You let your light so shine before men.

You are shepherds and kings! Like Shepherds you received a call and made haste to respond in good faith and with simple trust; like Kings you have brought gifts to babies and children wholly unknown to you. 2000 years after the event, it is still going on, and we are all caught in wonder!

“I have the immense joy of being man, a member of a race in which God Himself became incarnate. As if the sorrows and stupidities of the human condition could overwhelm me, now that I realize what we all are. And if only everybody could realize this! But it cannot be explained. There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shining like the sun.”
– Thomas Merton

Gotta think PierGiorgio and Dorothy are smiling in heaven, too!

What a wonderful and humbling bunch you all are. For once, I am at a loss for words, but I couldn’t let Christmas come without sharing these pictures.

God bless you all. Merry Christmas to you and to yours. And may God’s peace come upon all of us in the New Year!

Thank you so much for the pictures! It was wonderful to see something so beautiful today. I think I’ll be coming back from time to time over the next week to read about the generosity of total strangers.
