Binding Trump Is Part Of My Work As A Witch

Binding Trump Is Part Of My Work As A Witch October 26, 2020

Four years ago, when I learned that Donald Trump would be president I set to work binding him. Encouraged by witches and other magickal practitioners calling people to begin a magickal resistance. Witches who saw what a trainwreck Trump would be for this country. In fact, my first spell came at the behest of a non-witch friend who wanted to participate in that call.

Contrary to some opinions expressed in the FB comments on a recent Pagan & Shinto News article that talks about witches who are binding Trump to prevent his 2020 re-election (intoning “An ye harm none, do what ye will. Good luck when that spell turns back on you threefold”), the commenters are (obviously) embracing stereotypes, believe binding to be “dark” magick. They believe it to be “harmful.” They do not seem to understand this form of spellcraft. So, here it is. Binding is a work of justice and protection.

And while yes, I will hex/curse when it is necessary or a last resort (because not all of us are Wiccans) I do consider binding for the protection of others part of my work as a Witch. And that includes protecting my country from a narcissistic, misogynistic, compulsive liar with delusions of grandeur.

Binding (unlike what some seem to believe) is preventing someone from doing harm by holding their influence or actions at bay. If you are going to be critical, at least understand what it is you are judging.

Witchcraft Honors Nature. Trump Doesn’t

When Jason Mankey posted Voting Out Trump Is A Part of My Paganism, I knew there would be “blowback” from people on the Facebook page. Why? Because when a bunch of us at Patheos Pagan shared our views on the election in Patheos Pagan Writers on the 2020 Election, it came as a shock (and sad surprise) how many people in the witchcraft and pagan communities (vehemently) support Donald Trump. Q conspiracies and all.

We saw comments that echo his favorite catchphrase “fake news”, endorsing of distorted “facts” that have been disproven, disregarding the evidence of the harm he has done to our nation, our standing as a world leader, policies that harm people, the environment, et al.

Here is some of what I wrote for that post:  “Biden aligns with concerns that mean a lot to me including protecting Roe, protecting LGBTQ citizens’ rights, identities, and safety. Reforming immigration and protecting immigrants who are currently being held on the borders. Reforming and demilitarizing the police. Marriage Equality. Sustainable Energy. Climate Change. Reforming Healthcare to make it more available and affordable. Fair wages and jobs. Environmental concerns (which for me include protecting the Great Lakes, the funding of which Trump slashed by 90%). Do I need to go on?”

Witchcraft is Political

In his article, Jason laid out the argument of why it makes no sense for those who claim to be Witches or Pagans to support someone like Donald Trump who is so obviously opposed to our basic beliefs. And for those who do not believe witchcraft or paganism to be political, read Witchcraft Has Always Been Political by Mat Auryn (2018) and then Mortellus’s Yes, It’s Political and If You’re Voting For Trump I’m Judging You.

3 Pagans and a Cat supports all genders and sexual orientations. We declare with our black friends and listeners that Black Lives Matter. We support a woman’s right to choose what’s best for her health and body. 3PaaC denounces the current Supreme Court Nomination debacle happening in the Senate. We wear masks, wash our hands, and maintain six feet of social distance in public because we believe in and support science over fiction. We believe climate change is real and do what we can to protect the planet. And we want to see anti-racist policies put into place in this country. Immigration reformed and children who came over the border reunited with their parents. And yes, we who practice spellcraft in our family do the work.

Witchcraft and paganism have always been political. Witches have been called upon to protect the marginalized or afflicted for centuries. And I will not shy away from performing a binding on a truly destructive individual (or at least try to mitigate the damage by him, his “yes men and women”, or his cult followers (as evidenced by those who plotted to KIDNAP and MURDER MY GOVERNOR) because of a “rule” made up in the 1950s to make “the normals” feel less threatened by those of us who practice spellcraft or call ourselves Witch.

Vote For The Soul Of The Nation

I believe we are at a crucial moment in the history of our nation. As an American, I do believe we are voting for the soul of our nation this election cycle. And I’ve made it pretty clear who I support as the next president of the United States. Was Biden my first choice? No. But I do believe he can lead us out of the mess which the current president (the administration and the majority in Congress) has wrought upon us all.

Regardless of my feelings (because I’m standing solidly with Mortellus and Jason), I encourage you to vote. Let your voice be heard at the polls. Republican. Democrat. Independent. Green Party. Democratic Socialist. Whatever. And please do the right thing. Make sure those whose opportunities to vote are being suppressed (because it is happening all over this country right now) have the chance to do their civic duty as well.

And should the unthinkable happen (again), I will continue my work in binding the influence of Trump with all the other witches of Bind Trump. Because as bad as it is right now, it could have been a whole lot worse. I may still do even if he loses. Because the next few months are going to be rough. But then again, it is 2020. This year has been quite the bastard.
