God’s promise of peace to the restless

God’s promise of peace to the restless July 29, 2013

One of the causes of weariness is restlessness. God’s solution to this is to give us peace. Again, we go to God with these promises I will share with you in our hands and ask him to give us peace. It does not always come immediately. And there are times when other things may need to be done to help us physicially, mentally, socially or spiritually. But whether God seems to answer immediately or not, these words remain true and we must cling onto them. What gives us peace?

The facts of our salvation

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1).
“For he is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14).

Jesus’ gift of peace, and our responsibility to choose not to be troubled

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.(John 14:27).

Knowing that God is here for us and holding us:

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.
(2 Thessalonians 3:16).

The eternal God is your dwelling place,
and underneath are the everlasting arms
(Deuteronomy 33:27).

Peace a result of trust and meditation

You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.
(Isaiah 26:3–4).

Peace comes by choosing to live at peace with others

If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
(Romans 12:18–19).

Peace in difficulties

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33).

Peace, a result of prayer

The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:5–7).

A prayer for others that they may have peace

The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
(Numbers 6:24–26).
