How to use collections in Logos Bible Software

This video shows you how to use collections in Logos Bible Software. You can get your 2026 Library here: https://logos.sjv.io/VOaAgk I was kindly given a copy of one of the Preacher libraries by Logos so that I would review it, but I’m not constrained as to what kind of review I give. I confess that I so spend an awful lot of money of my own on Logos. If you want to contribute to my Logos addiction, please feel free to click on the affiliate link and you’ll give me a small contribution towards that.

You’ll find Collections under Tools, then Collections. It’ll come up with something like Pastoral Care. I’ll show you what I’ve done, and you’ll see that we’ve got 600 books in this collection.

Some of these will have been found in the books we’ve just bought.

What I’ve done is put “pastoral care” in quotes, because if you just put pastor, it’ll find irrelevant books. I’ve also added mental for mental health or mental illness, counsel for counsel or counseling, suffer for suffering, and psych for psychiatry or psychology.

I’ve added Newton because he has a lot of useful things to say about this, particularly in his letters. I didn’t want to miss out on Newton’s works here, as you can see down there. Some of these will of course be some of the new books.

Let me show you what this means in practice.

If you want to do a search, you can click here and choose one of your collections. As you can see, I’ve got one called Adrian Warnock’s Top Authors, which is just my favorite authors. I’ve got one for Newton. I’ve got one for Spurgeon. And I’ve got the one called Pastoral Care, which I was just showing you.

If we search for “self-deception” here, you can see we’ve got a lot of different results coming up. This one looks interesting, so we’ll click on it. And there it comes up, with information about what that means.

Sometimes, if it’s a longer work, you might worry that you’ll click and not get to the right bit. For example, here — yes, you can see “self-deception” there. But if you click on “self-deception” in the search results, it will take you to the exact right place. If you click on the title, it’ll take you to the top of the book. But if you click on the actual words you searched for, it will take you straight to where that phrase appears.

That’s really it.

You can see that if you’re wanting to do searches, this can be quite useful.

I should just say a couple of other things about Search. You can also choose Search All. If you click there and search all, you’ll see that by putting quotes around a phrase, you’re searching for that exact phrase.

You’ll also bring up some locked books. These are books you don’t necessarily have in your library. That can actually be helpful, especially if you’re looking for something very specific, for example a quote. If you’re trying to find the source of a quote and you think someone in your library might have used it, but you can’t find it, you can search more widely.

It might even be enough to make you want to buy one of those books.

Well, that’s it. Very short and very sweet.

About Adrian Warnock
The resurrection of Jesus changes everything. Just not all at once. Healing takes time. Compassion and patience carry us over a lifetime of change.
These are the themes I explore in my books and in the articles I have written for Patheos since 2003.

My writing draws on my scientific training as a doctor and psychiatrist, my work in the UK's National Health Service and the pharmaceutical industry, alongside more than twenty-five years as a member of a growing church where I served on the leadership team offering pastoral care.

My perspective has also been shaped by chronic illness since 2017, when I developed life-threatening pneumonia that caused lasting damage to my body, triggered several further conditions, and uncovered a diagnosis of blood cancer. This was successfully treated, although doctors expect it to return in the future. Out of these experiences I founded Blood Cancer Uncensored, an online patient-led support community.

I am the author of the Transformed by Jesus: Spiritual Renewal series of books, which ask:

→ Is the Easter story true, and what does it mean?

Raised With Christ: How the Resurrection Changes Everything

→ Why is change so difficult? What causes the resistance?

The Traitor Within: Understanding and Healing Our Deceitful Hearts

→ How does transformation happen over time?

Amazing Grace: How Faith Grows in the Human Heart

→ What are the first steps on a journey of faith?

Hope Reborn: How to Become a Christian and Live for Jesus

These books bring together medical, psychological, social, and faith-based insights, advocating for a biopsychosocial–spiritual model of wellbeing. My qualifications and training reflect this integrated background:

→ British MB BS medical degree (equivalent to an MD in the USA)

→ Postgraduate qualifications in Psychiatry (MRCPsych) and Pharmaceutical Medicine (MFFM, DipPharmMed)

→ Theological training courses run by Newfrontiers
