Wow! Some stories just stop you in your tracks.
Reading about CNN news anchor Lynne Russell being attacked at gunpoint did just that. Lynne was recently held up when a stranger forced his way into her hotel room at Motel 6:
‘I opened the door and he materialized out of nowhere; he was inside. And he pushed me into the room and onto the bed and closed the door.’
‘We tried to calm the man, ask him not to point the gun because we really couldn’t think what we could give him. It felt to me he was used to doing this, that whatever happened wouldn’t bother him.’
Russell reportedly managed to slip De Caro a handgun during the conversation, by handing him a purse which had the .35-caliber weapon concealed inside.
NBC News said she asked the gunman for the purse, claiming there could be something valuable inside, then gave it to her husband to extract the weapon from.
Speaking from his hospital bed Wednesday, he said: ‘I was determined to save my dream girl’s life – even if it cost my own.’
Luckily for Lynne, her husband was in the shower, came out, and shot the assailant dead. In the process, her husband was shot three times, but thankfully survived.
Her husband is her hero:
“I’m so grateful to him. He literally is my hero. He saved my life. I’m grateful that he is a responsible gun owner. He’s former Special Forces. He knows how to handle himself.”
After the attack, Lynne had this to say about the Second Amendment:
“The discussion over the debate to own a gun is just ridiculous. As Americans we have the right to bear arms and as humans the right to protect ourselves. I’m sure that the man who shot my husband did not have a gun permit. Criminals will always have guns. The rest of us legally obtain our gun permits.”
Both Russell and [her husband] de Caro are longtime supporters of the Second Amendment which states that Americans have the right to bear arms.
“If you don’t want to carry please don’t. Then, shut the f*** up about it. Make your own decisions,” she said bluntly.
I am thankful for the Second Amendment and am glad Lynne Russell is standing up for it too!
