5 Prayers For America

5 Prayers For America July 15, 2015

Here are 5 short prayers that are vitally needed for America today.

Second Chronicles 7:14 Prayer

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time. And as for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my rules, then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man to rule Israel.’ But if you turn aside and forsake my statutes and my commandments that I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will pluck you up from my land that I have given you, and this house that I have consecrated for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

This is the one prayer that always comes to mind when I pray for God to send repentance to this nation. Perhaps there has never been a greater need for praying for America. God has turned her back on Him and if we will return to Him and humble ourselves as a people, I believe God will restore His favor to this land. If not, we are in serious trouble of His judgment. Is it too late? I pray it is not. Will you join with me for God’s mercy for our country and that God would send His spirit and bring many souls to Christ for His glory?

If-my-people-who-are

First Timothy 2:1-4 Prayer

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

We might not like who is in political office but we ought to pray for them anyway. Even in Paul’s day the rulers were overwhelmingly evil and were killing Christians throughout the Roman Empire but Paul still urged that we pray for them and even give thanks for the leaders who were in the high positions of authority. This was for the intent of being able to live a quiet, peaceful, godly, and dignified life. God desires that even those who are leaders and living contrary to God’s will would be saved and come to a saving knowledge of the truth.

Psalm 33:12 Prayer

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!”

This nation was founded on Christian principles and the morality that Jesus taught but how far we have strayed from these teachings. We’ve kicked God out of the school, we’ve kicked God out of the local governments, we’ve kicked God out of the public square, and we’ve kicked God out of the government and when tragedy strikes and people cry out “Where was God!?” I tell them, “Don’t you remember! You kicked Him out!” We need God back in our homes and in our prayers and we all need to seek His face and to humble ourselves before Him and ask for His forgiveness before this nation reaches a point of no return, if we are not there already. The nation whose God is the Lord, that nation is blessed, but cursed are they that despise the way of the Lord and whose judgments they ignore.

Proverbs 28:2 Prayer

When a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue.”

How many more rulers do we have today than when this nation was formed!? The Supreme Court is now apparently the ruler of this land and not the president or congress. We’ve got it backwards; the congress used to create laws but now it’s the Supreme Court. The Congress used to pass laws, not judges overrule them. When Solomon wrote about when a land transgresses, he was talking about the people and the particular responsibility of the national leaders by the lack the backbone to do anything anymore because of the atmosphere of political correctness and the god of pragmatism. What is right is no longer popular and what is popular is no longer right.

Proverbs 14:34 Prayer

Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people.”

If righteousness exalts a nation, and it surely does, then unrighteousness must debase a nation and this is not just happening in America; it is happening all over the world. The Ten Commandments were the foundation for the law in western civilizations but now the Ten Commandments are being removed from the public square. Is “though shall not murder” now irrelevant? What about the rest of the Ten Commandments? How can keeping them harm anyone or any nation? The truth is by refusing to keep these God-given laws, a nation and its people will be brought to disgrace because “sin is a disgrace to any people” and to any nation and God will never exalt or lift up and bless any nation that lives in disobedience but do the exact opposite.

Conclusion

There are more national prayers we can find from Scripture that we can use to pray for this nation like in Psalm 144:15 which says “Blessed is the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the LORD.” I pray that God grants repentance to this nation before it is too late and the hearts of the people are so hardened that they no longer care about living with respect for authority and upholding the laws of the land, which we are commanded to do (Rom 13). Will you pray that this nation will humble themselves and seek God’s face and turn from their wicked ways?
