2. School choice
“Choice” is a Democrat’s favorite word, unless it’s school choice and they want no part of it. But the new education secretary believes parents deserve a choice in their child’s education.
Because the federal government doesn’t always know best and because a one-size-fits-all system doesn’t always work, DeVos wants to institute school vouchers and increase charter schools, that way kids can get the best education no matter where they live or how much money their parents make.
She’s been fighting since 2000 in expanding school choice programs across the country. DeVos and her husband helped pass Michigan’s first charter school law which allowed a publicly funded school to be open to all students and give it more independence than traditional public schools.
