Louis Gohmert defended legislation to prevent trans people from using the bathroom that matches their gender identity by saying that when he was a teenager, he would have done so just so he could ogle the girls at his school. Kind of an odd confession, don’t you think?
If there’s one claim the paranoid far-right Islamophobes love, it’s the idea that there are Muslim “no-go” zones all over the country. Clare Lopez, one of Ted Cruz’ primary foreign policy advisers, recently made the claim that such zones exist in Minneapolis and even the police won’t go in there.
Two of the dumbest men in the House of Representatives, Louis Gohmert and Tim Huelskamp, got together on Tony Perkins’ radio show, which Gohmert was guest hosting, to sing the praises of Ted Cruz. If elected, Huelskamp said, Cruz will “bring us back from the brink of destruction.”
Add another name to the long list of Christian right extremists who have endorsed Ted Cruz. This time it’s Troy Newman, leader of Operation Rescue. Cruz has formed a new “Pro-lifers for Cruz” committee led by Tony Perkins and specifically promoted the fact that Troy Newman is on that committee.
Rick Scarborough, who hosted no fewer than seven of the Republican presidential candidates for bigotpalooza on Saturday about “religious freedom” (read: Christian privilege), went on Tony Perkins’ radio show to promote the event last week and said that Satan had declared open season on Christians — and he’s using comedians and the media to “defame the church.”
Rep. Scott Garrett, a Republican from New Jersey, went on Tony Perkins’ radio show and made the absolutely bizarre claim that before Obamacare there were only “one or two” people who didn’t have health insurance. Daniel Patrick Moynihan famously said that you’re entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. This guy is just pulling “facts” out of his rectum.
Tuesday is the entirely pointless State of the Union address, but Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is going to deliver a talk even more meaningless than that, the ‘State of the Family‘ address. He’ll be delivering it not in front of a joint session of Congress but in front of a small group of ignorant bigots, including Kentucky Count Clerk Kim Davis.
Donald Trump went on the radio with the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, so naturally he had to trot out his inane and hypocritical bullshit about the “war on Christmas.” He does know how to pander, after all. He claims that you just don’t hear the word “Christmas” anymore (what fucking world does he live in?) and that the power of Christians is being diminished.
Christian right leaders put a process in place this election cycle whereby they would meet periodically and vote on which Republican candidate to support for president. Led by Tony Perkins, they would meet and vote until one candidate gets 75% support, and when that happens all those leaders are bound to publicly support that candidate. Ted Cruz hit that mark just last week.
Louis Gohmert was filling in for Tony Perkins on his radio show and he invented a new conspiracy and then just lied through his teeth about how Obama has allegedly let in tens of thousands of refugees and they’ve committed all manner of terrorist acts in the United States. He didn’t name any, of course, because they don’t exist. Here’s what he had to say:
