It’s not unusual for people to take contradictory positions and not recognize the dissonance between them, but Glenn Beck seems to elevate this sort of thing to an art form. Take gay rights, for example. On the one hand, he doesn’t seem to be particularly anti-gay himself. On the other hand, he continually praises those who are. Here is perhaps his most pro-gay (or anti-anti-gay, at least) statement yet:
Glenn Beck is very excited about the prospect of Speaker of the House Louis Gohmert because “Louis is not going to compromise.” He thinks that’s a plus, as if it is possible to actually govern in a diverse, democratic country without compromising. And he wants his followers to flood Congress with phone calls because Gohmert would save America.
Samuel L. Jackson recently made a video urging his fellow celebrities to speak out against racism and violence by the police. That was enough to send Glenn Beck into a fit of red-faced rage, declaring himself to be the real victim of persecution and discrimination because he’s a Christian (well, Mormon; close enough).
Beck is once again declaring himself to be a prophet with a direct line to God. Looking at recent events he boldly says that “I see the future” and absurdly claims, yet again, that he’s always right in his predictions even if the connections are tenuous and far in the future.
Glenn Beck is all upset again, this time because an atheist was allowed to give the invocation at a commission meeting in Florida (several members of the commission walked out rather than listen to it). According to Beck, this is “mocking God” and he will destroy us for it.
We all make false claims once in a while. We hear a story and assume it’s true, pass it on and it turns out to be false. But it becomes rather amusing when someone does that while being haughty about how amazing it is that no one but you knows this incredible “fact.” Glenn Beck, come on down:
You’ll remember the defamation suit filed by a Saudi student against Glenn Beck after Beck flat out lied about him, claiming that he was the “money man” behind the Boston Marathon bombings. You’ll also remember that Beck tried to get that suit dismissed, arguing that the man was a public figure…because Beck made him one by lying about him. A judge rejected that motion and the case will go to trial:
More than a dozen women have accused legendary comedian Bill Cosby of drugging and raping them, a subject he refuses to talk about. Glenn Beck, always eager to take the most appalling position imaginable, says that an AP reporter who asked him about those accusations was actually raping him.
Glenn Beck, self-declared prophet, has another warning for us all. The combination of Obama’s executive order on immigration with the lack of charges for Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson is going to spark the race war he’s been warning about for some time now.
Last week Glenn Beck announced that he had been diagnosed with “adrenal fatigue” by a “chiropractic neurologist” who cured him of a whole range of mysterious symptoms. Many doctors have stepped forward to call bullshit on his story, saying that the symptoms he said he had are not related to adrenal fatigue and that “chiropractic neurology” is pure quackery. On Facebook, he lashed out at those sad and lonely people who doubt his story:
On Monday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler was met by a small group of protesters outside his house demanding that he support net neutrality. They even — gasp — blocked his car briefly. Glenn Beck’s entirely rational response: Revolutionaries are going to murder us all!
