This has been a heavy but fruitful year. A year of extreme highs and lows. In this year, more than any other, I have learned that the concept of gratitude doesn't always look like fat little pilgrims, eating a cornucopia of delectable delights on a Thanksgiving postcard. Read more

I’m over at Altarwork, talking about grace (it’s kind of my thing, ya know?). I had just left a work meeting at Children’s Hospital and was walking across the parking deck. The place was packed. The concrete citadel was loaded with automobiles plus hurried and worried people. It had taken a long time to even find a parking spot. I was weaving through the maze of cars and traffic, trying to remember where my car was, when out of the... Read more

Sometimes as a parent, we feel like we’re doing it all wrong. Too much t.v., too many carbs, too much screaming, and not enough patience and love. But you know what? As parents we are also reading Bible stories every night and say evening prayers. We are exposing our children to weekly corporate worship. They see us pray for people, they see us wrestle with hard things and struggle as we remain faithful. Read more

Hi, it's Lindsey! I'm over at Songbird and a Nerd today talking about the kind of Jesus I need. My kids were watching a happy little Christian t.v. show. You know, the kind from the 80’s that airs on some random public station, over the antenna. The one with the ultra cheesy choreography and bad music. My kids were watching that. It’s not what I would have chosen for them, but let’s be honest. Sometimes I just don’t care what they watch. I’m raising a toddler and a preschooler, and there are times that I’m simply thankful to have a moment to breathe. Read more

I am thankful that God gives us all space to move in and out of our belief system as we search for Him with all our hearts. I can't go back and edit my life like I have edited the archives of this blog, but I am becoming more okay with that fact all the time. He doesn’t need me to. He only asks me to surrender the struggle to Him and allow Him to walk with me through it, right into the middle of my mess. Read more

Now that I am a father, there is nothing as lonely as an empty house. Surely God must feel the same way about us. Whatever your story is, be encouraged today. Wherever your journey has taken you, you’re only as far away as, “I want to come home.” God is anxiously waiting for you to come back. Read more

For too long, I have forgotten my true identity as a child of God. I have lived toward this false identity of failure and weakness. I need to stop trying to live up to this false identity I have created and start living out of who I actually am. Read more

In His presence, I am safe and comforted and my heart is at peace. The light of His face proves that my fears are merely shadows and His goodness will continue to guide me all the days of my life. Read more

I believe in a Jesus who straightened out all the crooked paths we humans devised and made the complicated things simple. I believe in a Jesus who welcomed the little children who longed to be near him. I am one of those little children, who is content just to at His feet. Read more

In a previous job, I watched weekly training/motivation webinars from a guy named Grant Cardone. The thing he said that has stuck out the most is “Give people hope and they will follow you.” The quote takes me back to my family’s time in Alaska, when this thought came to me, “Hope is a commodity.” It’s true! We all crave the hope of: Good news. Potential. Positive change. What do you hope for today? A new job? A new car?... Read more
