Numbers 34: Our Future Inheritance

Numbers 34: Our Future Inheritance 2012-07-30T10:24:02-04:00

13 Moses commanded the Israelites: “Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. The Lord has ordered that it be given to the nine and a half tribes, 14 because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. 15 These two and a half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise.” -Numbers 34:13-15

Land matters. The difference between a free country and a slave nation is the ability to live freely on a piece of ground free from the control of others. At the conclusion of forty years in the wilderness, Moses began the process of dividing up the land for Israel’s tribes, a people once enslaved but now free by the power of God.

The same is true still today, even spiritually. The New Testament speaks of our citizenship in heaven. Like Israel, today’s believers experience God while traveling through to the place of promise. For them, it was a land. For us, it is heaven. We look forward and even long for eternity with our Lord, free from the troubles of this life and forever satisfied in the presence of the our Savior.
