2 Free Tix and a Bible

I have used the NLT many times in my teaching of college classes; the translation works well for public reading and teaching. In fact, I was involved in the translation of the Gospel of Luke years back when the NLT was accomplished. The Way is a young adult focused edition of the Bible, and if you are my age you may know The Way was wonderfully effective for many my age as they came into faith. Mark Oestreicher, my friend, has put together a wonderful team to write essays in this new edition of The Way.

Even more, the essays in this Bible are from many young adults/youth ministers — they let me write one on wisdom — and so this Bible will provoke much thought for many.

Why This Bible and This Movie?

Blue Like Jazz the movie (in theaters April 13) portrays life as so many Christians have actually lived it – the good, the bad, and the gray spaces in-between. It leaves questions and shows the doubts that we all have felt but couldn’t always feel ok to express. And that’s what makes The Way so intriguing. It’s a Bible that creates a space for questions, doubts, conversation, and hope. It’s not afraid to take on the hypocrisy not just of Christians, but of each one of us. But it’s not prescriptive. Like Blue Like Jazz, The Way communicates through real stories that don’t always resolve. Because it’s more about listening to people’s questions and doubts – of being in conversation – than having an answer ready at every second.
