A Woman’s Moral DNA

You remember that old nursery rhyme, don’t you?

What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails
That’s what little boys are made of !
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice and all things nice
That’s what little girls are made of!

Well according to a new survey, women really are nicer than their male counterparts. Sixty-thousand volunteers in 200 countries took part in a  “Moral DNA” test designed to test such things as who is naughty and who is nice.

Of course, this Moral DNA test isn’t determined by blood work.

It’s a matter of self-reporting, which we all know has proven very ineffective when determining Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in soldiers returning from war.

PTSD Questionnaire: “Soldier, do you think seeing your best friend killed on the battlefield has affected you in any negative ways?”

Soldier who can’t go home if he answers yes: “No. Not at all. I get a little nervous when I’m in Wal-Mart. I often think that if they would let me carry my firearms in the store we could clear through the lines a little faster. But that’s not due to PTSD, that’s because I’m a male and studies have proven that we men don’t think of others first. We are all about ourselves, and I’m just trying to get to the front of that line.”

According to the folks who thought up the new Moral DNA test, “Women prefer to make their decisions based on how it impacts others – which tends to produce better decisions – while men have a more individual approach and are more self-interested.”

Yawn.

More headlines news to make us feel good about all of our preconceived notions and mythology regarding gender differences.

It would appear that all we ever really needed to know about gender biases we learned in pre-school.

Shouldn’t the real question be how we became a people who rely upon Q & A  to determine the moral compass of others?

Personally, I look to John Quinones and ABC’s What Would You Do? as the leading metric of our nation’s moral compass.

(I wonder if that Moral DNA test includes a question about women being more snarky than men?)
