E. Jean Carroll, the retired columnist with Elle magazine, has two lawsuits against Donald Trump for defamation of character and rape. After much languishing regarding only one charge, on defamation, New York changed a law and both lawsuits are now proceeding swiftly in court, seemingly more in favor of Ms. Carroll now. Trump was deposed about it a few months ago, and the results were made public this week. Ms. Carroll claims that Trump raped her in a New York... Read more

COVID-19 is a pandemic caused by zoonosis–the transmission of a coronavirus from an animal or animals to humans and perhaps vice versa. There is still some uncertainty about how COVID-19 started. The prevailing view among epidemiologists and other medical experts is still that it originated in China and that it was transmitted from bats to people with the possibility of an intermediary animal being involved as a reservoir, and if so it likely was a pangolin. In my book, Moses... Read more

Benjamin Netanyahu has served as the prime minister of the State of Israel, longer than anyone, for a total of fifteen years. About ten days ago, he was sworn in as Israel’s prime minister for an unprecedented sixth term. But to do so, he had to form a coalition government that includes numerous political parties that have at least one seat in the Knesset–Israel’s 120-seat parliament. This new, very right-wing and quite religious coalition party of Likud’s Prime Minister Netanyahu... Read more

The swashbuckling, Spaniard Jon Rahm came from way behind today to win the PGA Tour’s limited-field Sentry Tournament of Champions golf tournament at Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii by two strokes over Collin Morikawa, who collapsed in the closing holes. After bogeying the first hole today, Rahm rallied to shoot a blazing ten-under par 63 while Morikawa lost his seven-stroke lead from the third hole to shoot a dismal  one-under par 72. It was a nightmare finish for Morikawa, who has connections... Read more

About a year ago, my church changed how it administers communion at its Sunday morning worship service. Previously, it had always passed out plates to us congregants that had small crackers and little plastic cups filled with grape juice. That had been pretty standard practice among churches during my lifetime. I always assumed the plastic cups were afterwards cleaned and reused, thus leaving no waste products. Of course, that requires some minimal labor in the washing of the cups. But... Read more

The PGA Tour started off the new year today with its first round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions for the 25th year at the Kapalua Plantation Course in Maui, Hawaii. Three co-leaders shot 9-under par 64s: Colin Morikawa, J. J. Spaun, and Jon Rahm. This special tournament consists of only 39 winners from last season’s PGA Tour schedule. My friends and golf analyst Brandel Chamblee was speaking on the Golf Channel’s Golf Central program on TV today about... Read more

Mike Pence appears to be anomaly. President Donald Trump tried to get his Vice President Mike Pence to break the law and make a contribution to overthrowing the U.S. government by refusing to recognize the certification of the Electoral College results, in which Trump lost the presidential election to Joe Biden. And while Biden was about to perform that formality, Trump incited a riot against the Capitol where Pence and all 535 members of Congress were gathered for that official... Read more

Augusta National Golf Club chairman Fred Ridley announced this morning that LIV Golf pros would be invited to participate in the 2023 Masters Tournament who are “eligible under our current criteria.” Thus, the Masters–the first of the four major championships in golf each year–will not ban LIV pros, including those who departed from the PGA Tour. This decision affects about a dozen PGA Tour players who defected to LIV. The 2023 Masters Tournament is scheduled for April 6-9. In... Read more

Three-time major championship winner Vijay Singh and his 31-year old son Qass finally won the two-day PNC Championship just now after 16 attempts. After finishing second three different years and third three different years, this two-man team–in this family competition of playing the best ball on each shot (scramble format)–carded a pair of 13-under par 59s for a two-round total of 26-under par to win by two strokes over the teams of Justin and Mike Thomas and defending champions... Read more
