I’m a big NBA fan. I’ve been this way pretty much all of my life. And I like Lebron James. He has been the best basketball player on the planet for the past nearly 15 years. But he has just now stuck his foot in a big hole of you know what by speaking out two different times against Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey’s tweet image a week ago Friday. It read, “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.”... Read more

Du Due to Donald Trump being our president, I am questioning if the U.S. should require psychological testing for its presidential contenders. It’s because the U.S. presidency is allotted so much power, especially the power of sending or removing U.S. troops to fight wars not declared by Congress or, worse yet, deciding on shooting nuclear weapons at our foes. If our president doesn’t have a very sound mind, that’s pretty scary. One week ago, President Trump phoned Turkey’s President Erdogen.... Read more

Some Republican members of Congress are saying a president should not be impeached but that the removal of a president from office should only be done by the voting public in an election. For example, Andrew Card was White Chief-of-Staff in the George W. Bush administration from 2001 to 2006. He just now said this on TV on MSNBC on the “Weekends with Alex Witt” program. No way! It’s in the Constitution. Framers knew what they were doing. How so?... Read more

The Middle East is the center of Islam. Founded by Mohammed in the seventh century, Islam originated in Medina and then Mecca in Saudi Arabia. When Mohammed died, in 632 AD, he had not designated a successor. So, his fellow Muslims debated about who should be the leader of their religion. The majority of Muslims said Mohammed’s successor should be his close friend Abu Bakr. In fact, he then formed the first Islamic caliphate. His followers became known as Sunnis.... Read more

Heh you NBA, you National Basketball Association people in the USA, since when do you let the Peoples Republic of China, which is Communistic government, tell us Americans what we can say and do? This is America–land of the free and home of the brave, at least after we dumped slavery. This is a free country, a democracy, and China is not. In case you’ve been hanging out in some cave lately with no smart phone, there’s a four-month long... Read more

I’ve been a political and ecclesiastical independent all of my adult life. It’s partly because Jesus was that way, too. For example, next month I plan to attend the Annual Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature. I will have been a member of this group for twenty years and will have attended every Annual Meeting except one. Everyone who attends wears a badge of identification. Under my name on my badge it will say “Independent.” I’m not saying this... Read more

Yesterday, I blogged about the NBA-China rift over Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey’s somewhat innocuous tweet, at least to Americans, last weekend which supported democracy protestors in Hong Kong. It was merely an image that said, “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.” China’s government and companies like TenCent came out harshly against Morey’s tweet. China canceled all televised Rockets games for the 2019-2020 season. The NBA is the most popular pro sport in China, and the Houston Rockets... Read more

Yesterday, General Manager Dale Morey of the NBA’s Houston Rockets (my old hometown team for forty years) made a statement in support of the eight-week old protest movement in Hong Kong regarding the “one state two systems” arrangement between Hong Kong and Communist China. Morey, Houston’s GM since 2006, was in Japan with his team playing a preseason game there with the Toronto Raptors when he merely tweeted an image that read, “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.” The... Read more

Third round leader Kevin Na, a Korean American, survived a devastating triple bogie on the 10th hole today to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on the PGA Tour at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada, his hometown. He won it on the second extra hole, the 18th hole, in a sudden-playoff against Patrick Cantlay. It was Na’s fourth win on the PGA Tour and his second win here at the Shriners. He had won it in 2010 as... Read more

Kevin Na shot a blistering nine-under par 61 today at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at the PGA Tour’s TPC Summerlin at Las Vegas, Nevada, to take a two stroke lead with a 191 total into tomorrow’s last round. Upcoming PGA Tour player Patrick Cantlay shot 62 to finish alone in second place, two strokes ahead of journeyman and longhaired Pat Perez. Na lives in Las Vegas and knows those greens. He proved it by making a bushel of... Read more
