Mindless Monday Question: Taylor Swift Edition

Mindless Monday Question: Taylor Swift Edition February 9, 2015

I don’t keep up much with the popular music scene. I hear the Grammy Awards were held last night, and I know the event has something to do with the music industry, but beyond that I’m as ignorant as a fish is of the moon. I couldn’t tell you who won a Grammy or whose recordings have sold the best in the last year. What little I’ve heard of contemporary pop artists like Katy Perry and Justin Bieber has not hastened me to iTunes, Spotify, or even Wikipedia. I’m afraid I’m rather meh about them.

It may surprise you to hear, then, that in the last year I became a big fan of Taylor Swift. Yes, I am an unapologetic team member of THIS SICK BEAT. My mother of all people played the video of Swift’s “Shake It Off” in my presence and from then on I was hooked. Yeah, I dig “Blank Space” too. As a parent myself, I’ve turned some of Swift’s recent hits into lullabies to help my little ones relax and go to sleep.*

This weeks’s Mindless Monday question: what artists (musical, film, literary, etc.) did you expect to hate, but loved instead? What artists were you surprised to find yourselves liking?

* FYI: the songs “Let It Go” and “For the First Time in Forever” from the movie Frozen make excellent potty-training tunes.
