A Long Week & Lots of Love — Sweet Tweets for 9/5/14 2015-03-12T16:45:37-07:00

our lady of sorrowsWhy do short weeks sometimes feel sooooo long?!

I started off the week with a post about how I was in a bit of a funk. I have to share that I was so very moved by the many kind messages I received from so many of you who wrote to say that you were lifting me up in prayer. Honestly, if I ever begin to doubt that the Body of Christ could possibly extend via the Internet, I only have to read a few of your notes to remind myself that true friendship and genuine compassion can come in many different forms.

This has been a long week, filled with work, with news, with some loss and love too. Yesterday, as the news of the passing of Joan Rivers was hitting newswires, I learned of the passing of another special woman. The mom of a dear friend who passed away yesterday was about the same age as the comedienne, but couldn’t have been more different. Rivers was sassy and worldly. Virginia was sweet and family oriented. It was fitting to me that my friend’s mom passed — as did Joan — surrounded by loved ones after a life given to the service of others. They served in wildly disparate ways, but both were moms and both will be greatly missed.

Also to be missed is Msgr. James T. Logan of my own home Diocese of Fresno. Although he was never my pastor, I attended many masses at his parish. As evidenced by the outpouring of affection on Holy Spirit’s Facebook page, Msgr. Logan will be greatly missed. Saying goodbye to a holy priest is a good reminder to offer our love and thanksgiving to the priests who serve us so faithfully, often without recognition. Let’s all remember to thank and pray for our priests this week. We thank you Msgr. Logan for your lifetime of service to the faithful — may your soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

As always, I’m grateful to John Clem, O.F.S. for compiling our Sweet Tweets:
