Today I did something I haven’t done any time in recent memory: I turned on my email autoresponder. Why? I’m getting ready for my upcoming trip to Rwanda. I shared back in July that — much to my amazement and great joy — I had been selected as a recipient of Catholic Relief Services Egan Fellowship. Today, I am in Seattle on a short trip with my husband Greg for a conference he is attending. From here, I will depart... Read more

Carol Zimmermann of Catholic News Service recently wrote a great article which gave an overview of this year’s Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate report to Catholic press on the current state of communications efforts in the Catholic Church: Most U.S. Catholics are not looking for spirituality online, in fact, half of them are unaware the church even has an online presence, according to researchers at Georgetown University’s Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate. So that’s why we need to support them in the “Journey of Discovery Webathon” that they began hosting today. Here’s the idea: Welcome to the Journey of Discovery Novena Webathon.... Read more

Plenty of my fellow blog readers enjoy using Google products and Google Plus, so I thought I’d share the warning that is making its way around the Internet about Google’s latest policy change to use our likeness in “shared endorsements”. This means that when you — as a Google user — +1 anything (the equivalent of “liking” it on Facebook), your name and profile picture can be used for advertising purposes. To disable this feature, go to https://plus.google.com/settings/endorsements?hl=en and unclick the box... Read more

If I’m looking to get stuff done quickly that involves crowdsourcing, I turn first and foremost to Twitter. In under five minutes, I can typically get my hands on great information and have fun doing it. This happened yesterday, when I received a tweet from Kevin Cotter of FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students: @LisaHendey Anyone you know who should be nominated for FOCUS’ 30 under 30?: http://t.co/TYCpf67zld — Kevin Cotter (@KevinRCotter) October 10, 2013   Kevin and the... Read more

I was saddened yesterday to learn of the sudden passing of Bob Hentzen, one of the co-founders and the president of CFCA, the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. While I’ve obviously never met Bob in person, his vision and example of saying “Yes” to God’s call to serve the poor will leave a lasting legacy. Please join me in praying for the repose of Bob’s soul, and for comfort for his wife Cristina, his family and loved ones.  KANSAS... Read more
