The point is that a lifestyle of actual reconciliation is not something that can be turned on and off. The most difficult thing for anyone to do is be the first one to stand up. Yet once that first time is in the books, standing up becomes normal—not for pride or revenge or even justice. Rather, for the sake of our shared humanity to leave the world a better place than it was inherited. Though that which compels each of us to this reconciliatory lifestyle might be different, the outcome of practicing actual reconciliation is the same.
