Some of the stories Iβm skipping in this chapter seem like a short hop/skip/jump from acting like either an obsessional stalker or a pre-teen with a celebrity crush, not mature grown married women. This one seems similarly unhinged.
One of the few useful things I learned at Weight Down Workshop years ago in church is that a steady diet of anything, even food you love, grows old after awhile and you come to loath it. Looking at the constant stroking and praising of husbands via multiple, multiple, MULTIPLE notes per day makes me wonder how long before the man either thinks he must be praised constantly as his due, or becomes unimpressed by the constant flattery.
This is a series looking at the marriage advice given in Nancy Campbellβs book βHow to Encourage Your Husbandβ.
While packing for a move I have turned up are books, terrible idiotic books filled with toxic advice. One of those books is by Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies βHow to Encourage Your Husbandβ. I think I ended up with this book in the aftermath of leaving my old church, given to me by one of my former friends that thought it would βhelpβ my marriage since in her eyes my husband leaving our old church meant that I wasnβt doing my job of wife well enough. Reading through this book now I cannot help but laugh at some of the suggestions. The book is entirely written by commenters and comments from Nancy Campbellβs website.
Last a Lifetime
My husband is an auditory person who thrives on words of affirmation, and Iβve been getting better and better about learning to meet his needs! I write him lists of why I love him, explanations of how wonderful he is, or a story of how his assistance/being there has impacted me. I then plant them in strategic places! Some of my favorites are driving by his college and leaving one (plus some βsugarβ!) in his car seat, stashing another in his duffel bag of work-out clothes, or on his pillow for him to find before he goes to sleep in the afternoon as he works midnight shift.
