More from Larry Solomon’s take on how to deal with a disabled wife from his site Biblical Gender Roles. Now Larry claims that women with chronic pain get lazy.  I have but two words for Larry based on this quote and they aren’t ‘Thank you’ or ‘How nice’ They are words I cannot use here.

Here’s Larry’s quote. The sad thing with the entire toxic piece is that there are nuggets of good ideas. But the bad bits overwhelm whatever might be useful.

Overwhelmed? Yes. Depressed? Yes. Too much pain to function? Yes. Lazy? No. All Larry is doing with that idea is making it acceptable for men to tell suffering women that they need to ‘suck it up buttercup’ and do things that might be counter-productive or cause more problems. Abusive is what it is.

One of the hardest things for women in this subculture to learn and do is self-care. This is a cult that orders women to do it all and smile happily while doing it all. Real emotions are not allowed and above all you must never inconvenience the Holy Penis Bearer in your household no matter what your own personal needs are.

I wish I could just quote the entire piece here and pick it apart because it is so revealing. Quick recap: It seems like Larry jumped from one emotionally unhealthy relationship to the next. His poor wife underwent a gastic bypass, problems with that (which are common btw), to a car wreck that created a traumatic brain injury and changed his wife’s personality. You can see where he’d get fixated on the idea of gender roles after years of dealing with the situation he finds himself in. Larry seems driven to write about his idealized idea of marriage with no hope of ever beng able to achieve it. But it all seems to have robbed him of any real compassion towards women.
