Stupid Fearful Justifications for the Pence Rule

Stupid Fearful Justifications for the Pence Rule August 11, 2018

Doug Wilson of Blog and MablogΒ  is making me laugh this week. Between his subtle and not so subtle impunging of people who forget to thank God for their hot dogs and anyone with special food needs he’s in full hysterical mode. Quotes from his Food Catholic book. But even better than his food ignorance is Doug’s review of the book β€˜Why Can’t We Be Friends’ by Aimee Byrd. Aimee’s book questions why it’s so impossible in Christian circles for men and women to be friends. Doug’s take is all stupid fearful justifications for the Pence Rule.

So what is the Pence Rule? It’s a pervasive belief practiced in the Evangelical world that men and women cannot ever be alone together if they are not married to one another. It’s the same belief that makes the Duggar family ban one-on-one chaperone-less dates for their adult children. It is the belief that if a man and a woman who are not married to one another are alone then someone is going to fall penis-first into that random vagina. It’s insulting to both sexes, and fits with the ridiculous notion that men are animalistic beings that cannot control their sexuality, and that women cannot say no.

Here’s what Doug Wilson had to say to justify this childish rule:

No, no, NO!!! A women you are alone with is not exhibiting a micro-aggression by the mere virtue of being alone! Just grow up, Dougie and act like a man now. There will always be circumstances where an unrelated man and woman can be together and nothing untoward happens: Job performance evaluations, work meetings, job interviews, just to name a few where it might be necessary and it’s highly unlikely to involve sex!
