Get a Gun Because 23 Psalm?

Get a Gun Because 23 Psalm? November 5, 2018

Sometimes when I’m bored and need a laugh I’ll go into Faithful Word Baptist Church’s archive of Steven Anderson’s sermons and read a few. If you want to see what happens when someone with massive paranoia, and very little real education makes the Bible fit their delusions this is it! In this post Anderson is trying to say that the most quoted psalm of all times, the 23 psalm is a roadmap for what marriage looks like. In particular the part about walking through the valley of the shadow of death means Jesus wants you to buy a gun to protect your wife.

Buy. A. Gun. Great, just want every loosely wrapped paranoid wing nut needs. A lethal weapon. I wonder how Anderson’s border arrest would have played out had he hand a handy dandy hand gun within reach?

Here’s what Anderson said:

Sorry the print is so tiny. You can read the entire thing at the church’s sermon site or click on the image above to enlarge it.

It’s frightening to think of someone as deranged as some of the folks at Faithful Word Baptist Church charging around with deadly weapons. These are people who are more likely to shoot a toe off, or take their threats against gays or Jews to the next level. The last folks you could trust with a lethal weapon.

If you are going to own a gun under the second amendment you should first not be a lunatic calling for the deaths of others routinely. Owning a weapon is a huge responsibility to keep the general public safe while exercising your right. Quite frankly I am not confident that anyone at any of the Faithful Word offshoots has enough of a sense of responsibility to be a good gun owner.

According to Hemant Mehta of The Friendly Atheist one of Anderson’s acolytes, Bruce Mejia, called Queen Elsa from the Disney movie β€˜Frozen’ a whore during his rants against Halloween. He went on to say that anyone dressing their child up like Elsa was dressing her up as a whore. Does this sound stable to you?

There’s so much more I could say about Anderson’s strange misunderstanding of the quite lovely and popular 23 Psalm, but I’m still gobsmacked by his claims that walking through the shadow of the valley of death means you must protect your wife with a gun. That’s not what any of it means!
