Drafty House Filled With Spiders? BE THANKFUL!

I keep rereading this piece, wondering why when it sounds so good I’m getting the shivers of fright. It’s not because of his description of a house filled with spiders, it’s because of that thing in Quiverfull that is one of the worst – the ability to be thankful for anything and to take very bad circumstances and romanticize them into some how wonderful Michael and Debi lived in a drafty house filled with spiders. Be thankful.

If it important to have a good attitude and to be thankful, but let’s be real here. This is a marriage that was miserable from day one. Debi collapsed during their honeymoon. The tales since aren’t any better.

Michael goes on to list all the medical ailments and bad things that have happened to them, still claiming it’s all for God’s glory and how β€˜blessed’ he is. Too bad we’ve all see how they lived, the extreme poverty they mostly lived in, the intense fear mongering. Who can forget Debi’s recitation of the night she thought her baby might die because she vaccinated it? Of Michael’s glee in beating dogs and cats and children?

This strikes me as last second gratitude before passing on, glossing over the unpleasant parts, pretending it’s all been wine and roses. What do you think?
