Karen Pence – A Distinct Signal That Lori Alexander is Fighting a Losing Battle

Karen Pence – A Distinct Signal That Lori Alexander is Fighting a Losing Battle January 22, 2019

Karen and Mike Pence in a screen cap from CNN video.

Last week one of the biggest controversies in the news was the news that the wife of our vice president, Karen Pence, was taking a job. People were more offended by the fact that Karen was taking a teaching position with a Christian school that has an anti-LBGT policy.Β  For both employees and students.

Is anyone really that surprised that the school that identifies as conservative Christian might have this policy in place? The school happens to be one I know from my time living in Virginia. I have attended functions there at ImmanuelΒ  in Springfield Virginia many times during my time as a Quiverfull Christian. They tend to be at the time not as fundamentalist as they are being made out to be, flirting with the edges of normal.

The policy is not right, but who expects anything else from them? This is a common but backwards policy at just about every Evangelical Christian organization I’ve seen. I seriously doubt there are openly gay employees at Intercessors For America or Christianity Today. They are on the wrong side of history and will eventually have to change or die.

What I find fascinating in this whole development, well, besides the fact that Karen Pence will be fighting inhuman amounts of traffic on the Beltway to get to a part time likely minimum wage job, is that she’s working. Many of the female cultural enforcers we know seem to consider working outside of the home as equal with demonic possession.

It indicates a shift, a big shift, in Evangelical Christianity when the most pressing concern is the policy on sexuality. Not if a married woman should be working outside of the home. It makes Lori Alexander and pals look like the backwards hypocrites that they truly are.

Working women are here to stay, as vital parts of society, not capering Satanic harpies thwarting the will of God. Even Christian women work with no bad outcomes no matter what is being said. God does not condemn working women, just Lori, Nancy and Debi plus others with extra Biblical ideas. The war is over and they lost.
