Dating Causes Infanticide?

Dating Causes Infanticide?

Just when you think it’s safe to look in the theological closet Larry Solomon of Biblical Gender Roles decides he knows history and how we got to the point of all the things he is constantly decrying, divorce, education for women, careers for women, no marriage, children born outside of marriage leading all the way to doctors killing newborn babies. Wow, Larry, that is some prime fear-mongering mixed with some monstrously big leaps of non-logic.

Larry believes the problem started all the way back into the mid 50’s, the 1850’s when women decided to reject courtship and embrace dating. Surprise, Larry! Traditional courtship models declined well before the mid 1800s and romantic love replaced the parent led courtship without romance or dating. Even if dating was an invention of the 1900s the idea of courtship had dissipated by then.

Should we tell him that Evangelical Christians lead the nation in divorce rates? Rates have fallen dramatically in recent years, and yes, fewer people are marrying young. I think that has more to do with the economic insecurity, lack of decent wages and the fact that people are only able to buy homes at a much older age than anything else. All of this uncertainty leads to fewer births too. It’s not women’s liberation, it’s the economy, stupid! Read my lips! There was even an article on this very thing in yesterday’s Washington Post.

Larry claims that women having rights leads straight to abortion and that abortion leads to doctors killing the newborn babies. No proof, a lot of babbling from Fox News on various abortion laws that have cropped up. In Larry’sΒ  mind dating leads straight to murdered babies.

Maybe he is just afraid that men are becoming obsolete, more a vanity accessory like a candy pink stove or a pair of new shoes?
