Super Bowl Entertainment and Evangelical Outrage

Super Bowl Entertainment and Evangelical Outrage 2022-03-01T17:14:56-04:00

Just like the yearly return of swallows to Capistrano the entertainment at the Super Bowl controversy among Evangelicals has happened yet again. I woke up this morning to the outraged Christian masses over the performances of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

They never say a thing when the entertainment is male, just for the female performers.

Lori Alexander jumped the gun on protesting the performances yesterday before they even happened.

Not surprising. We all know that LoriΒ  loves to do herself some horrific slut-shaming on any woman showing thighs but herself. In other words water is wet.

But she is hardly the only one. I witnessed this morning oodles of Evangelical outrage among people I know. I cannot judge because I did not see any of the performances because we lost power and internet after the first quarter, but I figured it was the same old Shakira and Jlo rump shaking and singing. I would have only watched Shakira. I like her music.

The costumes looked fun.

So, what did you think? Paving the road to twerking pole-humping hell, or just business as usual with the NFL?

Here’s a pile of outraged reactions from some QF folks I know.

I’m not sure how singing and dancing in a costume that is no different than that worn by professional figure skaters or Olympic athletes ridicules femininity. Exhibiting any female sexuality is too threatening for this crowd apparently.

I didn’t notice any of these same people protesting when the Who played the Super Bowl and Roger Daltrey took off his shirt defrauding me and countless others. Why the outrage when they know what to expect, why not just turn it off?
