Today’s open thread. There’s a lot happening in the world of Covid 19, not the least of which is finding out that President Trump and many of his administration hold stock in several companies that actually manufacture hydroxycloroquine. The same drug being touted by Trump that hasn’t been proven to work against the Coronavirus. Just another day in our world where Trump has apparently signed off on mining the moon.

That’s the other big issue of this time, other news is being swept aside by the pandemic, so that there is little coverage of it. Example – Trump fired someone on Friday and it caused barely a ripple in the media. The mind boggles.

Over in the UK their prime minister Boris Johnson is now in ICU with Covid 19, and many Britons are blaming 5G networks for the virus, tearing up and setting on fire 5G towers.

The other big shocker for me this week was that I found out that Nicaragua is doing exactly nothing to fight the virus. That trip to the Costa Rica and Nicaragua border three weeks ago when I had my temperature taken, was hand sanitizered almost to death, and had to answer a pile of medical questions was Nica’s state of the art response to the pandemic. They claim to have few cases, but no testing is being done either. Currently they are the only nation in Central America with open borders and without any lockdowns. In fact, they are holding parades and parties for Semana Santa (Easter).

Everything here that is not a grocery store, pharmacy or medical office is on lockdown. Oddly enough the veterinarians offices are open.  We still have a handful of rich Americans refusing to believe that this is a thing because of things said by the president.

They are not alone. This is what Doug Wilson of Blog and Mablog had to say

“The first is the COVID virus itself. The second is the economic devastation that has been caused by a dramatic and unnecessary over-reaction to the virus. And the third is the threat to civil liberties that is posed by a thoughtless granting of sweeping emergency powers to the government.”

He thinks this is some plot to strip away civil liberties? But the funniest bit is in this piece he goes nuts promoting hydroxycloroquine as the answer with piles of clips from… drum roll please…. Fox News. The same Fox News that is the mouthpiece for President Donald J. Trump. He is completely unable to see that he lives in a stupid echo chamber. I guess because scads of people aren’t dying right there in Moscow, Idaho he thinks it’s not a real problem. No word on if Doug held services, but I think it’s safe to say he likely did.

Dear Doug, it’s not “Good News!” if it is a drug still being tested that has obvious side effects.

Then we see that Michael and Debi Pearl of No Greater Joy are claiming they knew this was coming and have been trying to raise piles of money so that they could give away the gospel to the world.

January 1^st, 2020. I had such a growing sense of urgency that time was of the upmost importance, that I pushed my staff and I begged others to see the need and join with us in this endeavor. For more than a year I worked long hours writing a new book that I knew would do well because I wanted to make as much money as possible so we could reach as many people as possible with the gospel. At just one cent a download I counted the souls by the millions. It was an overwhelming eternal vision.

So now this is how they are spinning their story? With tales of writing “Create A Better Brain Through Neuroplasticity” as a way to raise funding to save the world? Too bad Amazon shows at best a few hundred copies sold. That is a lot of effort for little return.

“When I first heard of the coronavirus, I knew that God would use it to get the attention of people all over the world. Suddenly, busy people would be busy no more. Everyone would have time for God.”

This painful prose is attributed to both Michael and Debi, but reads like it is straight from Debi’s hand, like all other recent posts by Mike.

Just another shameless money grab by another grifter-y preacher.
