Do We Have Special Prayers Focusing on Cancer

Do We Have Special Prayers Focusing on Cancer February 2, 2023

Do We Have Special Prayers Focused on Cancer.

In the many years that I have guided cancer patients, from various faiths and religions, I have yet to be asked- “Do we have special prayers for cancer?”

Prayers have always taken a front seat in the moments of spiritual counseling and care that I have shared with those touched by cancer.

However, not necessarily in the convectional way.

Prayer is often associated with a request.

Since healing from illness such as cancer cannot always be granted, I tend to put a different focus on the usage of prayer.

However, I know that prayer is one of the most healing treatments for the heart.

I Have Found Much Power and Soul Strength in Composing Prayers.

I have found much power and soul strength in composing prayers.

When those touched by cancer, the ill and their loved ones, write their own prayer, it offers them the empowerment of hope for a good moment.

I have written prayers together with survivors(or thrivers as I like to call them),patients and composed them myself.

There is something so rewarding and soul lifting when one can translate from the soul to the written word.

There is never a right way or a wrong way to write your own prayer.

Sometimes we can find the most power in the simplest of prayers.

I Make Room for My Own Prayer

I make room for my own prayer before I begin to work with those in the world of cancer.

There is a traditional Navajo prayer that I learned many years ago.

It never ceases to connect me with kindness and compassion:

“May I be helped to do here whatever is most right.”

Religions Offer Prayers of Comfort as Well

Religions offer prayers of comfort as well.

I have helped trembling hands hold Rosary Beads.

Recited to tired eyes from the Koran.

Sang to scared hearts from the Siddur.

In those moments of shared prayer, no matter what religion, there is a sense of surrender to the moment.

I try to assure those I guide on their journey with Cancer, that prayer is what they want it to be.

  Morning Inspiration

Prayer can take you beyond fear, into a moment of hope.

She can open the door to awareness.

Prayer offers an opportunity to experience humility on an intimate level.

She is the unspoken words of your heart.

Prayer is going into the depths of your soul and listening.

She is a hand that can hold or be held.

Prayer is the strength in that first step.

She is a reminder that good always exists.

Prayer is connecting to what is larger than yourself.

She is a tool that reminds you, you can.

Prayer is what you need it to be.

May, the power of your prayer lift your soul.
