The Holy Father and our Catholic Bishops are, as a group, more than a little dubious about the Trump/Netanyahu Iran War.
I couldn’t find a statement by any bishop saying this war fit the description of a “just” war. In fact, their statements were unanimous in saying that it was not a “just” war, and explaining why.
Other statements, like those of Archbishop Paul Coakley, the current President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, called for a return to diplomatic solutions rather than war.
Meanwhile, the Holy Father called for leaders who were engaged in war to go to confession, and asked the press to report the suffering of war, and not just propaganda. He reminded us that war is not a video game.
This last comment, was a direct criticism of Trump, posting clips from war movies and video games as part of his hype for the war. Pope Leo called this behavior “sickening” and “a profound moral failure.”
