Trump has mis-used his power to broaden his attacks on the Catholic Church.
Catholic Charities receives federal monies through grants and state health and human service contracts for providing social welfare aid to poverty stricken people. Much of this is contractual.
In what appears to be a blatant reprisal against the Catholic Church, Trump has abruptly terminated a contract with Catholic Services in Miami that provides aid to children. Make no mistake about it. This is the act of an offended dictator who is using the power of government to silence people from criticizing his war in Iran.
No American president has used his power to punish people for saying things he doesn’t like in this manner before Trump. Aside from the moral and religious implications of this, on our American freedom to say what we think without fear of reprisal from an elected tyrant.
If Trump can do this to the Catholic Church, think what he can do to you. Consider also what his mini-Trumps all down the line can and will do to you.
As for all those Pollyannas who claimed that Trump supports religious freedom, all I’ve got to say is look at you now.
It is time for Catholics — I’m looking at you, right wing Catholic bloggers & podcasters — to remember that they are Catholic.
