It was around 20 years ago. My mother got a call from a man who introduced himself as her cousin from Tennessee. He had spent considerable time tracking down our branch of the family and wanted to make her acquaintance. He and Mama had a nice visit. She introduced him to my Aunt Mary and they got caught up on the family doings for the past 130 years. That’s how long it had been since our branch of the family had... Read more
Twenty-one centuries. We’ve had a lot of popes in that time. Some of them have been wonderful. Others have been a scandal and a shame, a blot of Christianity and the Church. Catholic history is human history woven around a pillar of divine teaching. It is as fallible as fallen humanity. What holds it together is not the perfection of the popes. It is bound together by the Holy Spirit that lets each of us fall, and then pick ourselves... Read more
Christians today appear to have stopped believing that the 10 Commandments and the Gospels are actually binding on us. We especially have lost all concept of the simple fact that lying is still a sin, and it doesn’t matter who tells the lie. Breaking a solemn oath is also a sin. When you lay your hand on the Bible and take an oath, you are making a solemn promise and you are calling on the Lord God Almighty to be... Read more

I want to talk for a moment about the fight for the right to life for the unborn child. We are awaiting a Supreme Court decision that will show us whether or not the five “pro life” justices on the Supreme Court will actually do the thing that pro life people put them on the Court to do. Will they overturn Roe? Or, will they issue a decision that keeps Roe in place? Prognosticators on both sides of the abortion... Read more
I closed down my blog and went away to pray. I often do that. I used to go to a nearby church and sit with the Host. That was closed during the COVID-19 shutdown, so I found other places. One place I go to pray in the mornings is my parents’ grave. Another is a serene spot in my back yard. Sometimes, I play the piano and my prayer is music. Last Friday, I went to Mama and Daddy’s grave.... Read more
“Every day 8 Christians are murdered for their faith. Every week, Christians churches our buildings are burned.” That is the reality of Christian persecution today.
