Our English term, 'resentment', says simply that when we envy we might be motivated to take revenge. When we turn to the French, 'ressentiment', it gets more complicated. We re-feel a past injustice in such a way that it incites mob spirit. With this term,' we add nuances, connotations, political ideology, scapegoating, and perhaps violence.
