Plenty of people predicted that the Iran nuclear deal would embolden Iran in its support of terrorists, anti-American rhetoric, and pursuit of nuclear weapons in its desire to dominate the Middle East and wipe Israel off the map. (A month ago, I wrote about 5 reasons the Iran nuclear deal was bad news.) These predictions are already coming true.
On October 10, Iran launched a test intercontinental missile that could be used to carry a nuclear warhead in the future. This is a clear violation of UN Sanctions, and the UN Security Council has been asked to investigate. We shall see.
White House Spokesperson Josh Earnest noted that Iran has a history of “violat[ing] the international community’s concerns about their ballistic missile program” — but said this alarming test had absolutely nothing to do with the nuclear agreement Iran just signed with our country.
The timing is just a coincidence, I suppose?
Iran has also increased its support for Syria’s dictator, President Bashar al-Assad.
in recent weeks Iran has ramped up its involvement in the Syrian conflict, building up both its ground forces and its proxy army Hezbollah to take back territory from United States- and Western-backed rebels fighting against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Those rebels are also fighting the Islamic State. So Iran, in cahoots with Russia, effectively supports two terror organizations in one conflict.
These actions are making a point to the world and to Iranian factions, both extremist and moderates, that the recent nuclear agreement was not caving to the West. Iran will still pursue its own goals and defy attempts to control it. In fact, the deal will change nothing, really.
Tell me again — then why did we sign it??
