Pro Lifers are gaining ground. A new survey charts a continued drop in support for abortion. American public opinion is about even, but better yet, those who say they support abortion say they support ‘the right to choose’. In other words, even those who register as pro-choice are often either anti-abortion or only wish it as a last resort. More encouragement in this month of 40 Days for Life. Bad news for the lesbian Dean of Episcopal Divinity School, the... Read more

Because of the kind generosity of Dr Richard and Mrs Ruth Ballard we have three first class relics at St Joseph’s Catholic School Chapel. Embedded in the altar is a relic of Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos, in a nice reliquary in front of an icon is a relic of St Elizabeth Ann Seton and attached to the base of a beautiful image of St Therese of Lisieux is another first class relic. This is a photograph of one of our... Read more

The relics of St Therese have now visited over 42 different countries and wherever they are taken thousands and thousands of people turn up to honor her. She is on a 28 day tour of England at the moment, and in that sadly secular country the sight of tens of thousands of people thronging her casket is somewhat of an embarrassment. The phenomenon is reported in the Catholic Herald here and the BBC reports here with some footage. What are... Read more

If you thought anti Catholicism had died out with the ecumencial movement, don’t worry. It hasn’t. It’s just shifted. You may not find such blatant anti-Catholicism from fellow Christians because among most Protestants there is now a veneer of good manners towards Catholics. I realize there is still a good bit of virulent ‘Pope is the Anti-Christ’ type stuff, but much of it has softened. Instead a new wave of anti-Catholicism is alive and well. If you have the stomach... Read more

I first visited Mont St Michel when I did my hitch hiking pilgrimage from England to Jerusalem. There was a small Benedictine community living there at the time and I was given their name by a monk friend in England. They gave me a warm welcome, and encouraged me on my journey. A few years later I found myself working as an Anglican priest on the Isle of Wight, so I would make my annual retreat at Mont St Michel.... Read more

MSM journalist Todd Unctuous is this week’s guest blogger.   I am, essentially, a man of common sense. I believe things are usually just the way they appear to be. Therefore I always find it amusing when people write long articles or publish websites about conspiracy theories. One of the conspiracy theories people enjoy discussing endlessly is the question of ‘who really killed John F. Kennedy’ or endlessly discussing the death of Marilyn Monroe or other famous people who died... Read more

This Anglican blogger muses here on the possibility that the Church of England will, before too long, be publishing a liturgy for prayers at the bedside of those who have embraced a compassionate death…That would be euthanasia or voluntary suicide. “Come now,” I hear you chortle, “Let’s be realistic and just a little bit charitable towards our Anglican brothers and sisters. Surely such a thing is unthinkable!?” Uhh. Priestesses were unthinkable. Services of blessings after divorce and remarriage were unthinkable.... Read more

OK hon. I know this isn’t really my subject, but in a way it is. Listen. Maybe some people think Mantilla is only a pretty face. They are right, I do have a pretty face, and you better believe I have been working on it. This is no accident believe me. Anyway hon. I’m talking about beauty, and I’m asking you, why is it that so many people in the Catholic Church have this thing against beauty? Can you figure... Read more

I have a suspicion that at times people wonder what the heck a priest does all day. As an Anglican vicar one had to endure the endless jokes on Sunday from the cheerfully godless, “It’s Sunday isn’t it vicar? It’s the one day you work isn’t it?” Haha. Yes. Very droll. In case there’s any doubt here’s today’s schedule: 7:00 – overslept because I didn’t sleep 7:30 – leave the house with three kids for school running late 8:00 –... Read more
