After four months of wearing my cassock and Benedictine scapular everyday as my work clothes, certain advantages and disadvantages have become apparent: Pros It looks smart It really is more comfortable than a jacket If your ermm, body shape fluctuates you have more expansion room the pockets are capacious It’s cool when you want it cool–you can wear shorts and T-shirt underneath It’s warm when you want it warm–just wear warmer gear underneath the high school kids generally think it... Read more

This report tells us how zealously ‘good Catholic mother and grandmother’ Nancy Pelosi wants to fund contraception and abortion in order to help the economy. How dumb is that? In the meantime here’s a report from Japan about a company giving their employees time off to go home and make babies instead of computer printers. The culture of death people seem blind to the real facts regarding population in the developing countries. In most European countries as well as Japan,... Read more

Here’s a note from a member of the RCIA class I teach: Hi Father hope you are well. I am one of your RICA students. Even though I am still an outsider looking in I can’t explain the overpowering love I feel during the Mass. I can only say that Jesus is present as you well know. Read more

Distinguished English film critic, Dickie Williamson (not to be confused with the SSPX bishop with a similar name) has published another stunning film review. The Cambridge grad and connoisseur of ecclesiastical fancy dress has this to say about Stephen Spielberg’s famous Schindler’s List: “My Dear people, benefactors and friends. It is tempting when looking for a serious family film entertainment (either on digitally ‘versatile’ disc or video-tape) to consider a cinematic offering that is historical and inspirational. A ‘friend’ might innocently... Read more

A recent post about atheism elicited a bizarre comment. I had observed that atheists may soon find it necessary to actively neutralize or eliminate religious believers as dangerous extremists and harmful bigots. An unbeliever commented that they wouldn’t need to. They would just wait for all the believers to die out in the face of the indomitable force of technology driven secularism. The lack of awareness by this supposedly enlightened soul is astounding. All the statistics show that, rather than... Read more

I watched the inauguration today, and I’m sorry folks. I simply can’t get excited about this ‘extraordinarily gifted man’ that everybody is ecstatic about.  I think he’s full of hot air. His speech was a load of platitudes that was probably strung together by Oprah Winfrey.  I can’t help feeling that he’s just another canned politician with a slick grin put together by smarty pants media men paid by the guys in the back room. When I breathe my dislike... Read more
