This article from the Daily Telegraph says Mrs Schori will be asking the ABC to stop parishes and diocese defecting from her church because it ‘goes against tradition’. It’s okay, of course, to break with tradition and have female clergy and homosexual bishops. Come along, Mrs. Schori. This is a  “new and fresh direction of the Holy Spirit. We need to be courageous and not be afraid in the face of something new. We need to break the bonds of... Read more

This evening at St Mary’s we’re having a modest event to share the faith with others. Challenging Catholics is an opportunity for the general public to ask questions about the Catholic faith. We have put together a panel of ‘experts’ who will each take an area of questions. An MC will ask the questions and there will be an opportunity for discussion. Those who register will be invited to further informal meetings that will lead to an invitation to RCIA in... Read more

Damian Thompson moves on from his usual fussy controversial tone to write powerfully and movingly of Pope Benedict’s address to the youth and World Youth Day.  Here are some excerpts: Dear friends, life is not governed by chance; it is not random. Your very existence has been willed by God, blessed and given a purpose (cf. Gen 1:28)! Life is not just a succession of events or experiences, helpful though many of them are. It is a search for the true,... Read more

The Daily Telegraph reports the record number of teenage pregnancies and abortions in the UK. In response the government wants more contraceptive education, more abortion clinics, more free condoms and more sex education for younger and younger children. This has provoked a conservative response that points out quite rightly that the policy of free contraception, and universal ‘values free’ sex education has failed. Yet, the conclusion the liberal establishment draws is, “Whoops! teen pregnancy and abortions are still going up.... Read more

The UK’s Independent newspaper has this article which is also featured in the Daily Telegraph. Both articles give the ridiculous impression that Pope Benedict is one hundred percent behind Rowan Williams and is actually shunning any converts to Catholicism. From their tone you would think B16 had abandoned World Youth Day and chartered a jet to fly direct to Canterbury to solve the Anglican crisis himself. All this is based on a letter from the Vatican to the Anglican bishops... Read more

The news reports on the decay of liberal Protestantism seem to be flying in faster than we can record them this summer. Here’s one  about the Presbyterian  Church of the USA. There are dozens of Presbyterian denominations, and this is the most liberal of them. The report says, the PCUSA General Assembly, “which took place between June 21 and June 28. …nullified proscriptions against sexual behavior outside of marriage and called for a vote to delete the church’s constitutional standard... Read more

The Daily Telegraph reports an attempt by a liberal Anglican group called ‘Inclusive Church’ to offer an olive branch to those who dissent from the liberal feminist/homosexualist agenda.   Those who are conservatives need to try to get inside the skin of the typical liberal. He really does not believe in such a thing as revealed moral and doctrinal truth which stands for all time. He really, honestly believes that religion is a human construct that not only may, but... Read more

“For this passover to be perfect, we must suspend all the operations of the mind and we must transform the peak of our affections, directing them to God alone. This is a sacred mystical experience. It cannot be comprehended by anyone unless he surrenders himself to it; nor can he surrender himself to it unless he longs for it; nor can he long for it unless the Holy Spirit, whom Christ sent into the world, should come and inflame his... Read more

Not content with the already inflamed situation in his church, the Anglican Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, (who is also an old friend of Rowan Williams) declares that he would be more than willing to consecrate an openly gay man to be a bishop. He is pictured here on the left with Episcopal bishop Gene Robinson–the man who left his wife and children to live with his boyfriend, had a ‘divorce ceremony’ in which he and his wife went... Read more
