… I am so tired of intentional vulgarity disguised as entertainment. I like graphic novels and comics for the artwork, fantastic stories, and unlikely heroes and villains, but why oh why do they have to contain nudity and sexually explicit content? If I wanted to see people having sex in print format then I’d buy a damn hustler magazine. I want to read an incredible story illustrated by amazingly talented artists. Don’t tell me you can’t do that without sex... Read more

… I’ve taken on a side project called The Catholic Five. It’s basically five Catholics sitting around talking about Catholic-y things. The host, David Gray, has also started compiling video interviews of people telling their conversion stories. I love conversion stories, so I was pretty excited to share mine when David asked. Conversions stories are always unique to the person telling them, which makes them so interesting because they are as diverse as people are, but more importantly conversion stories... Read more

… Yesterday the second trailer of series 9 of Doctor Who was unveiled. And it looks more and more like my fan theory, that The Doctor visits Westeros, has become a possibility. Look at it. A Game of Thrones looking medieval town and a dragon. And of course Maisie Williams, the actress that plays Arya Stark. I kid. Everyone knows if George RR Martin can’t kill it he’s not interested. The constant regeneration would prove problematic. Watch the trailer and... Read more

… They’re opening another church in my area. At least that’s what I think it is. It’s really kind of hard to tell. It’s called The Wave and if it weren’t for the sign that says “worship community coming soon” I might think it was just another bar. The Wave, A Worship Community. I wonder what they’ll be worshiping. The sea? Is it the Cult of Neptune? Maybe it’s the Church of Cthulhu where they worship the ancient ones. There’s... Read more

… In college my best friend and I decided to shave our heads. I wish I could say it was done in defiance of unrealistic standards of beauty, feminist power, riot grrrl angst, or even a raging case of head lice. Nope, if memories recalls correctly, I shaved my head because I really, really liked this boy who played bass guitar in a straight edge band. Surprisingly, this was not the worst of my fashion offenses. Maybe it’s the setting... Read more

… My friend, Donna, makes rosaries. Not just any rosaries. She makes truly beautiful, sturdy wired wrapped rosaries. If you’ve every fallen asleep while praying the rosary only to wake up and find it in bits and pieces with beads everywhere, this rosary is for you. If you ever tossed a rosary in your purse or pocket and have it get tangled and come apart, again, this rosary is for you. Unlike typically single loop rosaries, these are practically indestructible.... Read more

… I turned 40 and less than two weeks later I quite literally fell apart. Forgive me for the extended absence, you see, my right hand has been splinted since Monday. That’s because on Saturday I had my second heart attack, followed by my second stent. But I’m home now and on this hellacious concoction of toxic pharmacopoeia — injections made of pig intestinal mucous and pills that give me blinding migraines, sudden drops in body temperature, and dizziness. The... Read more

UPDATE: 7/23/15 @ 4:30 pm With the rally to save the Pantocrater set for the next hour, two more Catholic media outlets have also taken up this story. Steve Skojec at One Peter Five has an incredibly thorough piece that details financial squandering, the banning of the Latin Mass, and posh renovations made to the rectory. There’s a... Read more
