‘Gay champion’ Trump report greeted with horror by homophobes August 22, 2020

A REPORT published yesterday by right-wing Christian website LifeSiteNews that claimed Donald Trump is the ‘strongest ally that gay Americans have ever had in the White House’ has ignited outrage among fundies.

The claim was made by the openly gay Richard Grennell, above, Ambassador to Germany and a Christian conservative, who stroked Trump’s ego on a video posted to Twitter.

Trump was overjoyed, saying saying “My great honor!!!”

Reporting on Grennell’s message, LifeSiteNew’s “ex-gay” Doug Mainwaring wrote:

Trump’s very public affirmation of Grenell’s message combined with the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) official creation of an outreach aimed at LGBT voters spearheaded by Grenell creates a conundrum for many conservative religious voters.

Such voters have wholeheartedly praised the President for his many actions to protect the life of the unborn and defend religious liberty, but they reject the normalization of homosexuality in American culture.

The progressive LGBT political machine, which previously has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party, has, along with the abortion industry, proven to be the greatest threat to religious liberty this nation has known in recent decades.

Initially it was unclear if the video, sponsored by the pro-LGBT Log Cabin Republicans, had been approved by the Trump campaign. But now the President himself has given it his personal stamp of approval, said Mainwaring, who added:

The presence of LGBT political heft within the Republican Party may lead to a weakening of religious liberty while further normalizing homosexuality, same-sex marriage, and transgenderism – a direct affront to Christianity and other religions.

In the ad, Grenell slams Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden’s 40-year track record on gay issues while touting Trump’s record, both official and implied.

President Trump has done more to advance the rights of gays and lesbians in three years than Joe Biden did in 40-plus years in Washington. I know firsthand that President Trump is the strongest ally that gay Americans have ever had in the White House.

Donald Trump is the first President in American history to be pro-gay marriage from his first day in office. President Trump knew I was gay when he appointed me to one of the most prestigious and powerful ambassadorships in the world.

Mainwaring points out:

Grenell is a self-proclaimed conservative, Christian, pro-life, gay man who has often been the target of harsh criticism from LGBT commentators and mainstream media because of his beliefs. He has also proved to be one of President Trump’s most potent, trusted allies. Progressives generally dislike him and conservatives generally admire him.

Log Cabin Republicans says its purpose is to:

Make the Republican Party more inclusive, particularly on LGBT issues.

Conservatives generally take that to mean diluting and eventually eliminating the GOP’s traditional conservative stances on marriage, homosexuality, and transgender ideology, wrote Mainwaring.

Comments below the LifeSiteNews report range from despair to horror. One wrote:

At what point does a Trump vote become a direct cooperation with evil, and therefore a sin, and not a lesser evil? I will consult with a traditional and wise moralist to find out the answer. I may NOT be voting for Trump again.

Another said:

This is Trump’s greatest flaw. He will pander to anyone if they say nice things about him.

A third wailed:

I’m afraid the President has just signed his political death warrant. David Cameron was also ‘hugely proud’ of his support for pseudotrimony in the UK. Where did his career end up?

And a fourth grizzled:

This shows that we must not look to President Trump as our saviour in all areas. He seems to head to the right place, then we get a swerve like this. We must not forget Mr. Trump is a politician. Politicians are practical, pragmatic people. Once they win they have to work very hard to consolidate their base so they can be re-elected. Poor Trump! We should pray for his conversion.
