Atheists have no right to express their views, asylum-seeker told 2021-05-31T15:14:54+02:00

ASTONISHINGLY, this story comes from Sweden, which, in 1766, became the first country in the world to introduce a constitutional law where censorship was abolished and the freedom of  speech and the press guaranteed.

Which makes the treatment of Mohamed Amara, above, an ex-Muslim from Morocco, all the more difficult to comprehend.

In rejecting the apostate’s application for asylum, the Swedish Asylum Authorities argued, among other things, that they “consider it reasonable” to demand that Amara returns to Morocco, where he  should maintain a low profile and:

Restrain from his criticism of Islam and the monarchy to avoid provoking actions against him by individuals and authorities. In that assessment, the Court considers that atheists, unlike converts, cannot be considered to have a need to openly express their views in words or active action.

His rejection is highlighted in a petition launched by Amara, in which he branded the decision to deport him as “obscene discrimination”.

I would very much appreciate it if you sign this petition to show the responsible authorities that this obscene discrimination and disregard for the basic rights of ex-Muslim atheists is unacceptable and that you, as a signee, care about my rights and the rights of ex-Muslim atheists around the world …

The petition contains a letter in which Amara renounced his Moroccan citizenship, King Mohamed the 6th, and Islam.

In a separate blog post, Amara explained that he had fled Morocco as a result of:

Societal and state persecution, simply because I practised some of the most basic human rights, free speech and freedom of belief which are guaranteed in most of the civilised world, but they are unheard of in the dictatorships and theocracies of the Middle East and North Africa like my country of birth …

He revealed that, in 2018, he was attacked with a long knife by a follower of “the religion of peace” – Islam – who overheard him saying “something offensive” about his religion.

I wasn’t injured because of luck and my sprinting skills, otherwise, it could have been fatal and I wouldn’t be writing this.

Of the Swedish authorities he said:

They are basically asking me to go back and live a double life and pretend to be a Muslim and cheer for a tyrant king for the rest of my life to stay ‘safe’ from the oppression of Moroccan authorities and society.

If you asked that of a Muslim, like an Uyghur Muslim from China, half the world would flip on you, and they should, as that’s insanely hypocritical and pure madness, but since I’m an ex-Muslim atheist, my life and freedom and dignity doesn’t matter that much to them.

This comment from the Swedish Asylum Authorities is beyond disgusting and they should apologise for making it. I should be waiting for my asylum and an apology for this comment from a country that claims to protect human rights and gives lectures to other countries for violating them.
